Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has launched a major economic empowerment initiative, distributing 7,158 goats to 2,386 women. The distribution took place as part of the second phase of the Livestock Fattening Programme under the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project.
Each beneficiary will receive three goats to boost livestock entrepreneurship, with plans for future phases to include 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams. The program is aimed at promoting self-reliance, reducing poverty, and enhancing household income across Kano’s 44 local government areas.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the initiative is about more than just livestock distribution—it’s about creating a sustainable economic model and empowering women and youth to reduce dependency on government aid. The total value of the initiative is estimated at N2.3 billion, reflecting the administration’s commitment to community-driven economic growth.
The governor urged beneficiaries to use the livestock responsibly and be accountable to ensure the program’s long-term success.
