Oluwole Oke, the lawmaker for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in Osun State, has advised former Governor Rauf Aregbesola to reconcile with President Bola Tinubu. He urged Aregbesola to “go and beg, prostrate, and make peace” with his former political mentor.
Oke, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), shared this advice in a social media post on Sunday, stating that if he were in Aregbesola’s position, he would take the same approach.
The comment comes amidst rising political tension in Osun State, where Aregbesola’s faction, the Omoluabi Progressives, recently announced their departure from the All Progressives Congress (APC) over unresolved disputes within the party. This division follows a long-standing feud between Aregbesola and his successor, Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, as well as reports of friction between Aregbesola and Tinubu.
“If I were him, I’d go and beg, prostrate, and make peace with my principal, PBAT [President Bola Ahmed Tinubu],” Oke said. “If I were an APC member in Osun, I’d work for reconciliation between Asiwaju Oyetola and Ogbeni Aregbesola. As the saying goes, ‘Ija o dola’ – fighting doesn’t bring wealth.”
While acknowledging Aregbesola’s influence in Osun, Oke also encouraged the PDP to take advantage of APC’s internal conflicts, calling Aregbesola a “bride” in the state’s politics.
“The PDP must act quickly, pay the necessary dowry, and bring this ‘bride’ into their camp,” he said. “Ogbeni can still secure at least 20,000 votes in Ife/Ijesa Senatorial District. His influence in Ijesa North and South is significant.”
Oke ended by predicting Aregbesola’s continued prominence in Osun politics, stating, “Baba Kabiru is a factor. Keep this post and check back after 2026.”
