Nasarawa State University, Keffi, has expelled 37 students for one academic session due to their alleged involvement in “criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, and cyber-stalking.”
According to documents obtained by SaharaReporters, the students created a WhatsApp group to protest the introduction of a third semester by the university. The university’s Senate approved their suspension at its 123rd Regular Meeting on October 31, 2024, after a review by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
A letter from the Registrar, Dr. Bala I. Ahmed, directed the students to stay off campus unless granted permission. They are required to return in the 2025/2026 academic session with a letter of good conduct and in the presence of their guardians.
The decision has sparked mixed reactions among students and the public, with some deeming the punishment too harsh, while others defend it as necessary to maintain order. The university reiterated its commitment to upholding discipline and academic integrity.
